Remembering.....

My Grandma Alice passed away 2 yrs ago on Easter. So this time of year especially, I start thinking about her and the legacy she left and the impression she left on me. She had 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, so growing up I didn't get much one on one time with her. But the last 5 yrs I got to know her and see a side of her that I wouldn't have seen otherwise... and would have been too young to appreciate at any other time in my life. When I would visit we would sit and talk.  Her and  my Grandpa would share funny stories of their youth and  lessons learned throughout their marriage. I enjoyed those conversations so much. During this time I  saw a softer side of her and with age I think she started to show more emotion and vulnerability.  She was also the hardest worker I have ever seen. When I'm feeling lazy and don't want to clean or cook, I always think of her and how she never complained. Into her late 70's she would be shoveling snow and ice off her driveway, never thinking to ask for help or find a way out of doing it herself. Oh..how I wish I were like that. At times I wish she would have relaxed more and relied on her family and people who wanted to help... but it wasn't in her nature. I remember her constantly preparing meals...or jumping up to get something for someone.  As long as I can remember she was a volunteer at the hospital or other places in the community.  I miss her and I admire her for her strength and work ethic.  I strive to be more like her in my day to day life. I wish I had a picture of her to post but I can't seem to find one. So here are a couple shots of Emerson hunting Easter Eggs today...she didn't quite grasp the concept of "the hunt"...she was satisfied after she found 2 eggs.
Hope everyone had a great Easter!
